Digitalization, Science & Sustainability: DiTraRe at the International Summer School 2026
The Interdisciplinary International Graduate Summer School 2026 “The Impacts of Digitalization on Science and Society in the Quest for More Sustainable Futures”, held at the Miramar Palace in Donostia-San Sebastián, addresses the interrelations of digitalization of science and socio-cultural transformations. Organized by the PRAXIS research group at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS, KIT) and the Käte Hamburger Kolleg: Cultures of Research at RWTH Aachen University, the Summer School brought together PhD researchers from across the world and from diverse fields.
Angelina Sophie Dähms (ITAS, KIT) contributed a presentation drawing on her PhD, “Transformation of Scientific Policy Advice through Generative Artificial Intelligence: An Analysis Using the Example of Technology Assessment”. Her research explores how GenAI may transform science and scientific policy advice and what this means for epistemic authority, responsibility, trust and human expertise in policy advice.
The programme offered a vibrant space for interdisciplinary exchange on the societal implications of digitalization and the future of science. Keynote lectures by Gabriele Gramelsberger, Stefano Balbi and Harro van Lente complemented the programme and stimulated further discussion across disciplinary boundaries. For DiTraRe, the Summer School was a valuable opportunity to connect its research on the digital transformation of science with international perspectives on sustainability, societal change and the future of knowledge production and to strengthen dialogue among the next generation of researchers.

This talk will briefly present tools and services, as well as current figures, projects and upcoming developments relating to research data management in sports science. In doing so, we aim to provide insights for researchers in sports science, as well as for those in all other interested disciplines. We look forward to your participation!

A Matter of the Heart – IBT Featured in the New lookKIT Magazine
The latest issue of lookKIT, KIT's science magazine, is out now! This edition features an interview with Silvia Becker from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBT) on pages 34–36 titled "A Matter of the Heart."
In the interview, Silvia talks about her research on artificial intelligence for ECG analysis, how AI can support the early detection of cardiovascular diseases, and what motivates her work at the interface of engineering and medicine. The article also includes a link to the accompanying podcast, where listeners can learn even more about her research.
ChemWISE: Joint project with KIT-IBCS
ChemWISE is developing a community-driven Open Access ecosystem for chemistry that reduces reliance on commercial publishing and information platforms. At its core, the project expands the Open Chemistry Knowledge Base into an open publishing and knowledge platform that combines Open Access publications with structured knowledge extraction, collaborative curation, and AI-supported information services. By fostering sustainable governance, innovative research assessment, and open scientific collaboration, ChemWISE aims to strengthen scientific sovereignty and establish a transferable model for community-led scholarly communication across disciplines.
RADAR updates
RADAR Metadata Schema v9.3
We have updated the RADAR metadata schema to version 9.3 and implemented pending adjustments to the current DataCite Metadata Kernel 4.7.
The changes in detail:
- Addition of the new optional metadata element „Version"
- Addition of the value „VersionNotes" for the “descriptionType” attribute
- Addition of the following values for the relatedIdentifierType attribute:
„RAiD" (Research Activity Identifier) for referencing research projects
„SWHID" (Software Heritage Identifier) for referencing archived software artifacts
With the new metadata element “Version,” we are paving the way for a future versioning feature in RADAR. This feature will be based on a canonical DOI (Concept DOI) for all versions of a dataset, as well as a DOI for each individual dataset version. We will, of course, keep you informed about further implementation details.
Automatic Generation of RO-Crate Metadata Files
For published and archived datasets, RADAR now automatically generates a RO-Crate metadata file (ro-crate-metadata.json), which is available for download from the corresponding RADAR landing page. This extends our service with an internationally established standard for the machine-readable description of digital research objects.

Last but not least, we would like to remind you that our second Symposium on Digital Transformation of Research is in preparation! Mark your calendars for 6-7 April and make sure to come to Karlsruhe. The conference will take place at KIT and will have a limited capacity.
