Upcoming: June Colloquium with Andrés Saravia

For our June edition of the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Digital Transformation of Research our special guest will be Andrés Saravia from the Freie Universität Berlin, Institute of Sociology + WZB Berlin Social Science Center, RatSWD Office. He will give a talk on CrisesData - Information platform on data relevant to crises and disasters. Make sure to join us online via Zoom!

Silvia in Hamburg March 2026

Recent: IBT back in Hamburg

In March, Silvia from our “AI in Biomedical Engineering” use case travelled to Hamburg as part of an ongoing collaboration with the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). During her stay, she validated her work using data from the Hamburg City Health Study (HCHS), a large, prospective, population-based cohort study. Building on multiple visits to Hamburg, the collaboration is now yielding results. Stay tuned for two publications just accepted.

Recent: April Colloquium with Pascal Sierek

Presentation and recording from our April edition of the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Digitalisation of Research are now available online!

In this episode, Pascal Sierek explored how European and German copyright law apply when AI systems are trained on large datasets that may include protected works. He outlined when AI training may qualify as (scientific) text and data mining, highlighted current debates in scholarship and case law, and discussed what researchers should know to avoid copyright risks.

Recent: DiTraRe team at STS conference Netherlands 2026

Anna Jacyszyn and Felix Bach visited Twente, NL, where they gave two presentations at the Science and Technology Studies (STS) NL Conference at the University of Twente.

Felix presented a shared talk on "Towards a FAIR-compliant Harmonised AI-based Automatic Metadata for Climate Research", Anna gave an overview on "Challenges of Coordinating an Interdisciplinary Consortium: Leibniz Science Campus DiTraRe" and made sure to take us on a bicycle trip along the blooming tulip fields of Enschede. Wow!

The STS NL Conference 2026 brings together international scholars in Science and Technology Studies to examine the evolving role of knowledge and technology in times of global transformation. Under the theme “Knowledge and Technology in Times of Global Shifts,” the conference focussed on how knowledge production, innovation systems, and technological infrastructures are being reshaped by global crises such as climate change, geopolitical tensions, and digitalization.

Recent: IBT at the Annual Meeting of the German Cardiac Society

Four members of the IBT had the pleasure of attending the DGK congress, a gathering of over 9,000 cardiologists, researchers, and industry professionals to exchange ideas and shape the future of cardiovascular care. It was an inspiring few days filled with engaging discussions, insightful presentations, and high-quality posters.

We were honored to be given the stage in the president’s session to present on “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Cardiovascular Medicine”, a topic also recently covered in a state of the art article.
We’re leaving with fresh insights and new connections. Looking forward to next year’s congress!
